Liveable Port Moody: Family Friendly Units & Minimum Unit Sizes Motions

Callan brought forward Port Moody's family-friendly housing policy, capping studios and requiring a minimum share of two- and three-bedroom homes in new multi-family buildings, and entrenching minimum unit sizes to BC Housing standards. The unit-mix policy came in 2024; the minimum unit sizes followed in 2026.

Port Moody: Liveable Port Moody: Family Friendly Units & Minimum Unit Sizes Motions

Callan brought forward to council an interim family friendly units housing policy to ensure that the distribution of Studio, 1, 2, & 3+bd homes in multi-family developments better reflected our communities' housing needs. This interim policy from May 2024 ensures we do not end up with more than 30% studios, and we have a minimum of 35% 2 & 3 bd homes. Additionally, Callan proposed an amendment to our Family Friendly Units Guidelines that after collaborative discussion at the council table, and amendments by fellow colleagues, entrenched minimum unit sizes to meet the BC Housing minimum criteria for all multi-family units. Families need space, and ensuring these units are family sized is key to making Port Moody one of the most liveable communities.
