Port Moody votes Saturday, October 17, 2026. You'll elect a mayor, six councillors, and two school trustees, all city-wide. Advance voting runs Wednesday, October 7 and Saturday, October 10 at the Port Moody Recreation Complex, 300 Ioco Road. Not on the voters list? Register when you vote with two pieces of ID.

Two elections this fall: what's different
The province called a general election on September 22 for Saturday, October 24, 2026. That vote picks your MLA for Port Moody-Burquitlam and is run by Elections BC. The Port Moody election on Saturday, October 17 picks the mayor, six councillors and two school trustees and is run by the City. They use different voter lists, different voting places and different ballots. Voting in one does not count for the other.

How do I register to vote in Port Moody?
Port Moody uses the provincial voters list. If you're on the Elections BC voters list at your Port Moody address, you're already registered and there's nothing to do.
If you're not registered, or you've moved, register in person when you go to vote (advance registration with Elections BC closed August 18). Bring two documents that prove who you are and where you live, at least one with your signature.
To be eligible, you must at the time of voting be:
- 18 or older on or before general voting day
- a Canadian citizen
- a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before the day you register
- a resident of Port Moody
- not disqualified by law from voting
Where do I vote?
On General Voting Day, October 17, vote at whichever of these is easiest, 8:00am–8:00pm:
- Port Moody Recreation Complex, 300 Ioco Road
- Kyle Centre, 125 Kyle Street
- Heritage Mountain Community Centre, 200 Panorama Place
- Glenayre Community Centre, 492 Glencoe Drive
For advance voting on October 7 and October 10, there's one location: the Wellness Room at the Port Moody Recreation Complex, 300 Ioco Road, 8:00am–8:00pm.
What ID do I need to vote in BC?
If you register at the voting place (rather than in advance), you'll need two documents that together prove your identity and your address, and at least one must include your signature. The City's list of acceptable documents includes:
- BC driver's licence, BC Services Card, or BCID card
- ICBC owner's certificate of insurance and vehicle licence
- Canadian passport, birth certificate, or citizenship card
- Property tax notice, utility bill, or income tax assessment notice
- Debit or credit card, or a statement from a financial institution
- Student ID card, Canadian Forces ID, or government-issued benefit statements
- A Government of Canada document certifying registration under the Indian Act, such as a status card
- A First Nation identification card, or a Métis Nation BC citizenship card

Can I vote by mail?
Yes. Any qualified Port Moody voter can vote by mail ballot. Application forms are available online and at the Legislative Services counter at City Hall (100 Newport Drive).
Your completed ballot must be received by 8:00pm on October 17, 2026, at City Hall or an authorized drop-off location. A postmark by that date is not enough. If you're not yet registered when you apply, your package will include a registration form to complete and return with copies of two pieces of ID and a witness signature.

Advance voting is at the Recreation Complex only, in the Wellness Room.
Do I need to register before election day?
No. Advance registration with Elections BC closed August 18, 2026; register at the voting place when you go to vote. Registering at the polls requires two documents proving your identity and address, at least one with your signature.
Can I vote in Port Moody if I'm not a Canadian citizen?
No. Voting in a BC municipal election requires Canadian citizenship. To vote in Port Moody you must be a Canadian citizen, 18 or older on general voting day, a BC resident for at least six months before you register, and a Port Moody resident (or a registered owner of Port Moody property).
I just moved to Port Moody. Can I vote?
Yes, if you are a Canadian citizen aged 18 or older who has lived in BC for six months and lives in Port Moody. There is no minimum time in Port Moody itself; the six-month requirement is for BC as a whole.
Can I vote if I own property in Port Moody but live somewhere else?
Possibly, as a non-resident property elector. You must have owned the property for at least 30 days before registering, own it as an individual (not through a corporation or trust), and meet the other eligibility rules. Details are on the City of Port Moody elections pages.

No. They are two separate elections run by two different bodies. The Port Moody election on Saturday, October 17 picks the mayor, six councillors and two school trustees and is run by the City. The provincial election on Saturday, October 24, 2026 picks your MLA for Port Moody-Burquitlam and is run by Elections BC. Voting in one does not count for the other.
Do I have to vote twice?
Yes, if you want a say in both. One trip for the Port Moody ballot (October 7, October 10 or October 17) and one for the provincial ballot (October 16 to 21 or Saturday, October 24, 2026). You cannot cast the council ballot at a provincial voting place or the provincial ballot at a City voting place.
Where do I vote in the provincial election if I live in Port Moody?
Any voting place in BC on Saturday, October 24, 2026, and any advance voting place in the province during advance voting. Elections BC lists locations closer to the date. The Port Moody election is different: you vote at one of the four City locations on October 17 or the Recreation Complex on the advance days.
Is the voter ID the same for both elections?
Close but not identical. For the provincial election you can show one BC government photo ID with your address, or two documents with your name where one has your address, or have someone vouch for you. To register at a Port Moody voting place you need two documents showing name and address, one of them signed. A BC driver's licence plus a utility bill covers both.
